And yes, we both remember the Whites fondly. They were then and probably still are among Santa Fe's more remarkable hosts. And Marie's lasagna!

Pat and I were there for the first time last summer (we're going back this year), and when my haiku activity came up in conversation, Marie and Jim White said in unison, "It's too bad Bill and Penny aren't here." Marie, the sister of a college classmate (Boston College, Class of '54), apparently taught with Penny for several years.
